Whole groups have gathered around the humble skateboard. Mostly, we identify these as youth groups and, beyond that, seasoned skateboarding professionals.

However, these communities are not closed, and it’s never too late to begin skateboarding or enjoying the sport as a spectator if you’d like to. Skating events are regular in big cities and wherever there is a skate park you can go and view the activity for yourself and even being to have a go yourself.

Find a skate shop near to you and go along to chat to the staff there. They will be happy to recommend a board for your needs and also direct you to local groups.

YouTube is a great place to watch skaters and see their techniques. Remember that you will need safety equipment! Go slow, at first, and don’t try those big ramps until you are ready to.
